Birthday Blessings to a Young Lady

God in His Wisdom and His Great Love
Called one of His Guarding Angels and said to him --

"Go down to the family and take a Special Blessing to them since a beautiful baby girl will be born.

Here are some of the characteristics this little girl will have --
* She will have physical beauty which the world needs
* She will have a tender spirit, caring for others
* She will have a quiet spirit which will enable her to
be a blessing to others without knowing it.

So -- she was born and set out on the Voyage of Life!
At first the raging of her life was relatively quiet --

But, little girls do grow up and with this comes
* Longings to be a big girl
* Eyes that could see beauty
* A Tender Touch on the hand of others
* A Childish hug for daddy and mother

But the Ship of Life Sails On!!
* There were storms of growing pains
* The storms of unfulfilled childish dreams --
into the wake of another day
* So, she sailed on with God
into the wake of another day

Just over the horizon are unseen things
* Other little ships in trouble
* Your lot may be to throw them a life line
* You no doubt will show them the rocky shoreline

Let the hand of God steady your hand!!!
You are destined for a city!!!

"You are the light of the world.
A city set on a hill cannot be hid."

As God Guides Your Ship -- Remember
1. He is always in ontrol
2. His Love for you is beyond measure
3. You are a special Treasure to Him.

Did You Know That ?

God will go with you wherever you go
In Tennessee or O--HI--O
It doesn't matter if you're east or west
Wherever He sends you--Go knows best.
I'm sure old friends you're leaving behind
Friends are everywhere tho, and plenty you'll find,
It's not like walking the last mile of the way
But just the beginning, wouldn't you say!
Blessings untold are surely ahead
If you go with Him and go unafraid.
So pack up your duds and go with a smile
Let God go with you every mile
Then think of our Savior on Calvary's hill
And thank Him for showing you His precious will.

This little bit of poetry my brother Irvin sent me
when he found out that I was struggling with the
decision to accept the pastorate in Cincinnati.

"Friends" by Elizabeth (Dingus) Moore

It would never do for God
To live across the street
Or in the house next door
Where we should daily meet!

So, In Wisdom, and in His love
He sends us His angels kind
To walk with us --
We call them friends!

Friends--Just one word!
But what letters can express
A wealth of sympathy
And pure unselfishness?

One syllable--a single breath
Can form it--Friends!
Yet oh how much our happiness
On them depends!

When trouble comes--or loss
When grief is ours to bear
They come--our friends--
With words of cheer--our load to share!

How could we face despair
Without a Friend's caress!
Had we no friends to praise
How bare would be success!

'Tis not God's plan
That we should see Him face to face
Yet He would hedge us in
With his amazing grace!

And so--His messengers of Love
To earth HE sends--
They're Angels! Yet we know it not
And call them friends!

Depressed Preachers

Have you ever wondered why preachers get depressed,
Lots of reasons that you know -- some you'd never guess.
There's Sister Mouth who spins her yarns
   And lets the gossip fly.
And Ole Aunt Ears who takes it in
   And never bats an eye.
Now don't you tell--but did you hear--
   It's likely to begin.
I told you not to tell -- why --
   I do believe you've sinned.
There's "No Can Do" who could do
But no will to every try
I couldn't blame the preacher if
He'd just sit right down and cry.
Why should we worry about
   The down and out --
We've got a good preacher man.
    Why he's strong and stout.
There's "I Can Do" who could do
   But never does show up.
Then when he sees the preacher
He sneaks 'roun like a pup.
Then there's the one who says he'll teach
   He's quite smart, gee whiz.
And when Sunday Morning rolls around
   You wonder where he is.
Reasons on reasons ... this is
   Why they get depressed.
But wait -- I'm not talking to you --
Or do I hit you all -- more or less!

This is one of several poems my brother Irvin
wrote to me while he was in the Air Force.

About Ben Adam's Brother

There stands old Mack Brown
In tattered clothes and hat turned down.
"No great fellow he."  Says the world
   But God sees his life unfurled;
Sees the concern he has for others
Knows he views these men as brothers
Knows he wants only the best
For the helpless and the rest --
And for this cause he'd give
His life so they might live.

There stands old Mack Brown
In tattered clothes and hat turned down
Ah, but look again if you will,
For there in his heart is radiance still.

Life's Thoroughfare

On Life's busy thoroughfare
   We meet with angels unaware.
I've never seen God, but I know how I feel
It's people like you that mkes God so real.

My God is no stranger, He's friendly and gay.
And He doesn't ask me to weep when I pray
It seems that I pass Him so often each day
In the faces of people i meet on the way.

He's the stars in the heavens--a smile on His face,
A leaf on a tree, a rose in a vase.
He's winter and autumn, and summer and spring
In short, He's the most wonderful thing.

I wish I could meet Him much more than I do ...
I would, if there were more people like you.

*   *   *   *   *   *   *   *  by Mother Dingus

My mother wrote this and sent it to me more than 40
years ago.  I just came across it. Mom's poem was not intended as such a poem but only words of encouragement to me. I later put it in the form which you now have.
